At Health Heroes, we are dedicated to helping children develop lifelong healthy habits through an engaging, flexible challenge that align with national health education guidelines. This case study highlights the successful implementation of the Health Hero Challenge at KIS International School Bangkok, where early years PE teacher Janet Ayeni introduced the initiative to her Kindergarten 2 (KG2) students.
KIS International School Bangkok is a leading institution that values holistic education, focusing on both academic and personal development. Recognizing the importance of early health education, PE teacher Janet Ayeni sought an engaging way to introduce young students to essential wellness habits. She decided to pilot the Health Hero Challenge with her 25 KG2 students, testing its effectiveness in fostering healthy behaviors.
The challenge introduced students to five essential daily habits:
Eating fruit and vegetables – Encouraging a balanced diet.
Getting enough sleep – Promoting proper rest for growth and learning.
Staying active – Incorporating movement into daily routines.
Engaging their minds – Supporting cognitive development.
Helping others – Fostering kindness and social responsibility.
To make the initiative interactive and engaging, Janet tasked the students with creating a health-related video. In this video, students roleplayed as different the Health Hero mascots, demonstrating each of the five habits in fun, relatable ways. The video was then shared on the school’s learning platform, Seesaw, and information was shared to parents and in the school blog, allowing families to engage with their children’s learning journey.
The pilot program was well-received by students and parents. Key outcomes included:
Enthusiastic Engagement: The challenge and roleplaying activity made learning enjoyable, encouraging active participation from all students.
Parental Involvement: Involving families helped extend the learning experience beyond the classroom, reinforcing the importance of healthy habits at home.
Educational Value: The challenge provided an inclusive and structured approach to health education, and Janet found that the challenge helped the sutdents learn and build essential healthy habits.
Scalability: Encouraged by the positive response, Janet is now considering expanding Health Heroes across the entire primary school in the next academic year.
The success of the Health Hero Challenge at KIS International School Bangkok demonstrates its effectiveness as a fun, educational tool for instilling healthy habits in young students. By combining interactive learning with parental involvement, the initiative has proven to be an adaptable and impactful addition to the school’s health education efforts.
We are excited to support more educators in bringing Health Heroes to their classrooms, helping children worldwide build the foundation for a healthier future.
