Health Heroes is proud to announce that it has been awarded the £1,500 Ivan Baines Prize, along with three months of mentorship from serial entrepreneur Rupert Baines. This prize, established in memory of Rupert’s son, Ivan, is dedicated to recognizing projects with exceptional potential for social good and impact.
The award was presented at Homerton College by Rupert Baines and Lord Simon Woolley, Principal of Homerton College, University of Cambridge, following a highly competitive pitching night at the Homerton Changemakers Annual Showcase. After co-founder Dr Andre Lo presented Health Heroes alongside four other innovative projects—each previously funded through the Homerton Changemakers Catalyst Fund—Health Heroes secured the top prize, underscoring its potential to inspire lasting change and make a meaningful impact on children's well-being.
Health Heroes is a free, flexible challenge designed to help children develop five essential daily healthy habits:
Eating more fruit and vegetables
Getting enough sleep
Staying active
Engaging their minds
Helping others
By integrating these habits into a fun, interactive, and adaptable challenge, Health Heroes empowers young people to embrace lifelong well-being practices. The initiative aligns with national health education guidelines and seamlessly complements popular school programs such as The Daily Mile.
Winning the Ivan Baines Prize is a powerful validation of Health Heroes' vision to promote children's health and well-being. The prize funding will directly support the continued growth of the initiative, while Rupert Baines’ mentorship will provide invaluable insight and guidance to help scale the project and extend its impact.
With the support of this prestigious prize, Health Heroes is poised to amplify its influence and inspire even more children to lead healthier, happier lives. We are deeply honored by this recognition and excited for the journey ahead. The future is bright, and we can’t wait to continue making a lasting difference!
